Evelyn Scott P-10 School Molonglo, ACT

Evelyn Scott P-10 School is a new campus accommodating up to 1,200 students from pre-school through to Year 10. Sitting atop a sloped site, the greenfield school is in a growth area of Molonglo, ACT.

Responding to the needs of community growth and 21st-century learning principles, the School set a benchmark for an educational brief that focuses on community, belonging, collaborative learning and teaching, personalised learning, and universal access.

The development consists of seven new, single-storey buildings which include administration, senior services, pre-school, primary school, high school, shared gym, and library.

Designed to satisfy sustainable and site-specific conditions of Canberra, the buildings address varying, and harsh weather conditions, airtightness, and purposeful sheltered outdoor spaces. Internal and external finishes are inspired by the natural landscape of the Molonglo Valley and River. Earthy and ochre tones have been suggested to highlight the unique location and identity of the school.

The project has been procured collaboratively with early and ongoing engagement between the ACT Government, Joss Constructions and Hayball to identify design, function, and buildability issues early in the process to gain efficiencies regarding time, cost, and quality.
