20 Queen Street Blackburn, Melbourne

This 51-apartment development on a corner site brings the benefits of inner city living to the middle ring suburb of Blackburn. Located near to the local train station, the project responds to state and local government policy to provide greater density in strategic parts of the city near major transport hubs.

Envisaging the apartment block as a ‘ground scraper’ the facade design emphasises strong horizontal rather than vertical lines – the overall effect creates a robust and singular composition which integrates the building within the residential area. A generous garden space faces the street; its landscaped edge of street trees  provides a green buffer, enhancing the pedestrian experience and wider public realm design. Lower ground parking ensures that cars do not dominate the frontage.
