Tapped on the shoulder when he won the Australian Institute of Architects’ student prize for outstanding design work, Eugene joined us a graduate. Exemplifying the support for career progression at Hayball, he’s now a Principal playing a pivotal role in the early stages of new projects, where his ability to swiftly uncover a site’s possibilities dovetails with his strong design talent.
Born in Singapore, Eugene speaks Mandarin which he learned at school. It’s a skill that helps him to work directly and comfortably with international clients, whose needs he understands well from his cross cultural experiences.
“The Australian property landscape can be challenging for a lot of foreign developers and investors. They’re trying to get their heads around what works and what doesn’t work. They’re also becoming more creative and to me it’s very exciting to work together to find the point of difference that will set their development apart.”
Eugene distils design, commercial planning and technical information and makes it readily clear, working with clients in a continual dialogue throughout all stages of a development. The conversation can go late into the night, and often over a whisky.
“The question that excites me most is, ‘what could it be?’”
Eugene sits on the Hayball Board which is responsible for the overall Corporate Governance of the company.
