Wheatsheaf Place Parramatta, Sydney

An ‘A’ grade, 5 Star Green Star  mixed use commercial building in Parramatta’s central business district.

Providing 31,500m ² of office space, five levels of basement car and bicycle parking, and ground floor retail and hospitality tenancies, this large scale project explores contemporary attitudes to heritage. Nationally significant archaeological remains of a convict’s hut and the Wheatsheaf Hotel on the site provide the focus of a series of public spaces and linkages that embed the tower into its precinct.

The podium element reflects the scale of the streetscape and creates enclosed ‘slices’ of public space rather than the generic convention of the forecourt or setback. The design uses a progression of materials from ground level upward to reflect Parramatta’s history: timber for its agricultural beginnings, steel for its industrial boom and glazed curtain walls for its modern incarnation as Sydney’s second commercial centre. The building was designed to 5-Star Green Star standards.
